Mentoring Match

Maya recalls Erika being more anxious and was being bullied at school. Since our match Erika has won student awards, sung in front of all the students at assembly, her attendance at school has improved and the bullying has ceased.

Big Brother - Mentor

About 8 years ago I became involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters and was matched with an 11-year-old boy. During this time (he is now 19) we have remained great mates still catching up most weekends.

It was such a transformative and nourishing experience that enabled connection, a sense of purpose and growth, unlike any other relationship in my life. Whilst we were given the titles of mentor and mentee, the mentoring certainly went both ways! We gained a whole lot of good times, new understandings of ourselves, and a friend for life. Thank you to Big Brothers Big Sisters program for making this possible.

Mentoring Match

Jodie was Cathy’s mentor in the Young Achievers mentoring program for two years from 2009. Now a confident and compassionate adult herself, Cathy has gone to become a mentor to Roma.

I think my ‘Little Sisters’ trust in me and overall confidence has grown from visit to visit! It is so wonderful to witness her grow as a person and experience big milestones such as starting high school. My Little Sister has also had some stressful health and family challenges in the time we’ve known each other, and she has tackled all challenges with such a positive attitude and maturity beyond her years. During these times, I think it has been helpful for her to have a friend like me to talk to. I know she has an incredibly bright future ahead of her and I hope to be a part of this!

Big Brother - Mentor

A few years ago, I reflected on my adolescent years and came to realise that I had an unchallenged upbringing. It was with that thought that I decided I should try and help someone that perhaps isn’t having as easy ride as I did.

His Big Brother (mentor) is wonderful! He is proactive in organising to see my child and really takes notice of what he is interested in.
